Maine Statutes and Court Rules
The Maine Courts publish all of the court rules here. These include the Maine Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Criminal Procedure, and the Rules of Evidence. These are the rules that courts follow and that they expect lawyer and self-represented people to follow when filing papers and appearing in court. On this page, you'll also find recent amendments to the rules.
The Maine Legislature posts the Maine Statutes here. You can look through the statutes by Title and Chapter, or you can search for keywords that you know should be in a particular law. We find it is easiest to use this site if you know the title and section number of the statute you are looking for.
The Legislature also makes the Maine Constitution available on line, but it doesn't have the search function available.
The Federal Court Rules of Procedure are available in a number of places, including Cornell University's Legal Information Institute. The Legal Information Institute also has the Federal Rules of Evidence, and Federal Statutes, and lots, lots more.
